L'Ultimo Pizzaiolo

The theater goes dark. The old expression, once a happy metaphor, now risks having a bitter taste of reality. The cinemas of yesteryear are extinct; single-screen theaters belong to the memories of gray-haired moviegoers. A rapid decline that, from the 1980s to the present day, has wiped out iconic venues in every town. But alongside the story of the vanished cinemas, there is also that of the old projectionists (a profession now erased by technology), the theater managers, and the cashiers. Inside Sardinia's theaters, there are stories that have never been told, mirroring an Island that was changing. This is because the cinema—seen as a meeting place, a place of exchange, and cultural growth—was deeply connected to the social reality.
