La Pace Non E' Uno Stato Naturale

Lieutenant General Michele Luzzi, a member of the Italian Expeditionary Force in Russia (CISR), leaves his beloved wife Amalia in June 1942 to join the Russian front. During their farewell, they reaffirm their loyalty and dedication to the Fascist cause, expressing their hope for the victory of the Axis powers and their happy reunion. Intervening in the story of the two protagonists are four documentary clips that, by philosophically and scientifically exploring the theme of "war," seek to explain, through the voices of enlightened human minds, the intrinsic nature of human violence and its origins. The two lovers are depicted through an exchange of letters, which demonstrates the progressive transformation of their primary political and ideological beliefs into a shared awareness of their libertarian nature. Michele, in Russia, flees from his enemies and becomes a deserter, out of outrage at the deaths of innocents and the senselessness of war. Amalia, upon learning of Michele's death, takes her own life with her son in her womb. The two meet again at the end, in an "other" place, united in their pursuit of a higher truth, sparked by the rejection of violence and human folly.
