Born In Xibet

Peter La Paglia was born in Calascibetta and he grew there, a small village of the Sicily’s inland, in the province of Enna. Over there he has always been working with his father, who is a shepherd, to give an help to the family at the expense of his dreams. His destiny seems to be marked but Pietro is talented. Once he has become adult, Peter decides to leave from his land starting a new life in the north. He will work as professional photographer but he misses always his land. One day Peter decides to come back home: in front of his eyes the old images flow, the efforts, the hardship, the places of his youth, the craft shops, shepherds and farmers. Among his memories, are blended also the histories of the persons he meets: the teacher Domenico di Mauro’s one, the great artist who “painted” the sicilian cart, the young couple’s “fuitina” of love and their remedial marriage celebrated with a party in the countryside; the barber’s speeches talking about everything and live music. Travelling away, Peter thinks about what he found different, how the places of his youth are changed along the time and he understands that, even if they are not the same like he remembered, Sicily will be always inside him.
