UCCIDETE IL DUCA / KILL THE DUKE

The conspiracy against Galeazzo Sforza, the killing of the duke of Milan, Galeazzo Sforza (26 december 1476), was a key episode of the balance of power of the glittering Italian renaissance. That happened not only for the complex character of the victim but most of all because his death made room for his younger and much more famous brother, Ludovico the Moor. Recently historians make a connection between Duke Sforza murder and the Pazzi Conspiracy that nearly overpowered Florence just a few months later. For that very reason the bloody execution of Galeazzo Maria inside Saint Stephen church, on December 26 1476, became part of the political and clerical plot involving not only Florence and Galeazzo’s Sforza family but even France and the Empire. This murder is so well known that even the video game “Assassin’s creed” refers to it and a prequel of the game, referred to this episode, has been shot with real actors.
