Emma works as an online psychological consultant, and holds her sessions while running on her treadmill because, she says, it helps her focus on ideas, in a form of mental training that is also "discipline and regeneration". In reality that race is also an escape from oneself, and dealing with other people's problems is a way of not having to deal with one's own. So Emma gives advice to an obsessive compulsive man, an inconsolable father, a wife beaten by her husband, a gay boy and another suffering from panic attacks, but she doesn't know how to give herself the right advice. And when her younger sister Chiara reaches her online with painful news, it's easier for Emma to interrupt the conversation than to listen.
